Yesterday, TDC NET experienced a regrettable disruption to our mobile network. Unfortunately, this affected many businesses, individuals and public authorities, causing uncertainty and concern among our network users.
Together with our mobile network manufactorer, Ericsson, we deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused by the service outage. We will cooperate in taking all necessary measures and learn from this incident to ensure we can effectively handle and prevent potential outages in the future.
“Yesterday, our network faced a rare and significant disruption, which meant we could not deliver the service we owe our customers. As the CEO of TDC NET, I would like to offer an unreserved apology to everyone affected. We know it placed many customers in a difficult situation — most critically, those who unsuccessfully tried to reach emergency services. We must — and will — do better in the future,” says Michel Jumeau, CEO of TDC NET.
We are also engaging an independent consultancy to analyze the handling of the specific incident and review our processes to identify areas for improvement. This initiative aims to provide the best and most resilient service for all our customers.
No signs of malicious intent
All indications point to a technical fault as the cause of the disruption, and we have no evidence suggesting any malicious activity.
Ericsson comments:
“Ericsson regrets the incident last Thursday in Denmark which affected TDC NET’s mobile network. We are now working hard together with our customer to identify the root cause of it and will do our utmost to prevent it from happening again,” says Ericsson in a comment.
Details of the Incident
On Thursday, November 28, 2024, at 11:25 AM, TDC NET’s mobile network faced significant challenges, resulting in sporadic dropped calls for users on the network. The incident impacted people across Denmark and those roaming outside the country.
The disruption was caused by an unusually high volume of traffic related to phone calls, which overloaded part of the core network. Unfortunately, it took some time to reduce the overload and restore normal service. At this time, we cannot provide a more detailed explanation of the cause of the disruption.
