TDC NET’s mobile network experience has been named the best in the country for the past eight consecutive years, and TDC NET and Ericsson are now continuing their partnership – with a strong focus on sustainability and the green transition. Ericsson will, in the coming years, directly support TDC NET’s ambitious climate goals by providing energy-efficient solutions and artificial intelligence with machine learning software to reduce energy consumption in the mobile network.
"We are very pleased to continue our strong collaboration with Ericsson and expand our leadership position in the market while ensuring Denmark's best network experience. At the same time, we are the first company in the world with a validated 2030 net-zero emissions target under the UN’s Science Based Targets initiative, and we are therefore excited to continue leading the way by developing our partnership with Ericsson in an even greener direction," says Jakob Dirksen, Chief Technology Officer at TDC NET, and continues:
"A goal of net-zero CO2 emissions across the entire value chain by 2030 requires strong partnerships with our suppliers, and we are happy that Ericsson shares our sustainable mindset and ambitions."
New binding steps towards zero
TDC NET is the only telecommunications company in Denmark with a nationwide 5G network covering 99 percent of the country, and with the new agreement, the foundation is laid for further development of both services and performance in the coming years.
Additionally, as part of the agreement, Ericsson and TDC NET will now jointly realize new plans for energy efficiency and reducing the mobile network’s climate footprint. This will include the use of Ericsson’s newly developed Predictive Cell Energy Management (PCEM) solution. By using AI and automation, the solution will ensure higher energy efficiency, without compromising the customer experience.
Furthermore, Ericsson and TDC NET are committed to actively reducing the mobile network's CO2 emissions by lowering the CO2 impact from materials and emissions elsewhere in the value chain. TDC NET will also benefit from Virtual Drive Test, which allows for optimizing mobile tower coverage remotely and in a more environmentally friendly way.
"For a given amount of data, our 5G portfolio is 10 times more efficient compared to 4G. The new agreement framework includes a range of new initiatives aimed at reducing the network’s climate footprint. All in all, TDC NET and Ericsson are setting the standards for both technological leadership and climate commitments," says Niclas Backlund, Country Manager for Ericsson Denmark.
The agreement covers the operation and development of TDC NET’s mobile network, with the active rollout of Ericsson’s 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) hardware and software, as well as elements of Ericsson Managed Services, covering network operations and optimization, including field operations. The collaboration runs for four years, until the end of 2027.
