As the first Danish telecommunications company, TDC NET has joined the collaboration with Virksomhedsberedskabet - the Corporate Emergency Preparedness programme - an independent, non-profit association that mobilises private companies when society is hit by crises.
With this membership, TDC NET once again takes responsibility for society by contributing to the overall emergency preparedness of the Kingdom of Denmark – particularly in the first critical hours, when rapid mobilisation and stable communication are essential.
Virksomhedsberedskabet does not take over the tasks of public authorities, but instead ensures that society’s total capacity can be utilised efficiently and in a coordinated manner.
Critical infrastructure at the centre
As the owner and operator of Denmark’s core digital infrastructure, TDC NET plays a key role in enabling society to function – both in everyday life and during extraordinary events.
“When society is under pressure in an unforeseen crisis, secure and stable communication is a prerequisite for authorities and businesses to carry out their tasks and for citizens to keep everyday life running. With Virksomhedsberedskabet, we are putting our resources into play for the benefit of society’s resilience when a crisis threatens to bring Denmark to its knees, ensuring we understand how to work together now rather than learning during the event,” says Campbell Fraser, Chief Technology and Information Officer at TDC NET.
Rapid mobilisation when it matters
The strength of Virksomhedsberedskabet lies in its ability to enable rapid, local mobilisation during the first critical phases following a major incident. Here, private companies can contribute resources within areas such as communication, energy, food supply, evacuation and logistical support.
“When private companies like TDC NET make their capacities available within a shared framework, society’s ability to respond quickly and in a coordinated way is strengthened. It is about being prepared before the crisis strikes,” says Maja Broløs, Director of Virksomhedsberedskabet.
The collaboration means that TDC NET’s existing resources are incorporated into the programme’s overall overview of national capacities and can be activated at the request of the authorities in crisis situations.
“In practice, the collaboration means that we contribute with what we do best: secure and stable communication, technical specialists and rapid coordination – so that authorities and citizens can act when it really matters,” says Noah Fröhlich, Head of Business Continuity at TDC NET, who has been involved in establishing the membership.
Contributions are based on voluntary participation and existing capacity and are activated within clearly defined frameworks and priorities.
A shared responsibility for societal resilience
The collaboration supports TDC NET’s overall purpose of connecting Denmark – even when the unexpected happens – and at the same time marks an important step in the development of a stronger public-private emergency preparedness framework in Denmark.
